BBQ on a Budget

So yesterday, I found out through a friend that my beloved Husband had planned a barbecue for tonight. For around twenty people. At 5 PM. Not a potluck, us feeding them.

After asking how he expected us to afford such a thing with no planning or notice (to which he responded, I just said “hot dogs, calm down”), I headed to the store.

Now, with two and a half hours to go, I am back from the grocery store, starting on prep, and waiting for my new oven delivery.

For $48.48, I got:

  • 40 hot dog buns
  • 40 hot dogs
  • 3 big bags of corn chips
  • Ingredients for a double batch of extra cheesy bean dip
  • Mayo, mustard, ketchup
  • Ingredients for pasta salad (including feta cheese!)
  • Lemonade makings
  • Watermelon

I’ll open some of the salsa and pickle relish I made this month, add some carrots, red onions, cucumbers, and bell peppers to the pasta salad stuff, put out some sauerkraut, chop up some onions, and call it done.

Probably the cheapest party I’ve ever hosted…with the most casual food.
